Description:
Abstract:
Queer theory is quite broad, and this highlights the need to set the basic historical, social and cultural context within which it can be applied and make sense. At its core, lie the concepts of intersectionality, respect for diversity and deconstruction of socially imposed dominant norms. This chapter focuses on the introduction to queer theory and the basic concepts that underpin it. The main objective is to introduce the reader to key concepts regarding gender issues to be able to understand in depth the information that follows in the subsequent chapters of this guide.
