Description:
Abstract:
Hemostasis is a fundamental function in blood physiology and is therefore a central focus of modern hematology. However, it is also relevant to all medical specialties, as both hemorrhage and thrombosis represent two critical aspects of a balanced system that protects the body and are manifestations of various pathological conditions. Today, thrombosis in any form is the leading cause of mortality worldwide, while hemorrhagic syndromes, whether hereditary or acquired, and often difficult to treat, are significant causes of both morbidity and mortality. Recognizing this, the Foundation of the Hellenic Society of Hematology decided to publish this manual for a broader medical audience, particularly young doctors. The manual aims to assist with both addressing problems encountered in daily clinical practice and identifying potential research areas. This book is written in a mixed style, combining encyclopedic knowledge with practical advice. Across thirty chapters, authored by experts in the field, it thoroughly covers both the theory and clinical practice related to hemostasis issues. The comprehensive approach taken by the authors not only enhances the quality of the knowledge presented but also reflects the broader philosophy of Greek hematology, aiming to foster a deeper understanding and a modern approach to managing hemorrhage and thrombosis for the optimal treatment of patients.
