Abstract:
In this book, the concepts related to Information Systems and new information technologies in the field of education are presented, together with the principles of design, implementation and operation of Information Systems, from the perspective of a manager. The basic technologies and the processes of requirements analysis and system design are described, and representative systems in education are studied, such as School Management Systems and Learning Management Systems. The systems are categorized according to the functions they provide to their users. Management Information Systems are used in automating operations and in supporting the management of educational organizations, while Educational Information Systems are focused on the support of teaching activities and e-Learning. Within this book, we examine the most representative information systems in the field of education and we study their aims, their typical functions, their individual characteristics, the criteria for their selection, and the latest trends in the technology market. Issues of particular importance for the design and success of Information Systems are the ones related to system users. Reference is made to the concepts of user satisfaction, to the factors that determine it, to the ways of measuring and improving it, as well as the dimensions of system evaluation by its users. Empasis is given to the acquaintance with the new technologies of electronic and distance learning, personalized and interactive learning, virtual reality, as well as applications of electronic knowledge management and artificial intelligence in education. Issues of data management and exploitation of information in optimizing management and learning are also included, while reference is made to intelligent technologies and educational analytics.
