Authors: Lotis, Theodoros

Description:
Abstract:
The Chapter examines the basic elements of Acoustic Ecology and the study of soundscapes. The soundscape composition is examined and two case studies concerning the use of soundscapes for the creation of multimedia projects are analyzed. New terminologies concerning the categorization of soundscapes are proposed and phenomena such as sound hybridization and hyper-locality are presented. Eventually, the principles governing the music of soundscapes are critically analyzed and a new form of sound pollution is presented: the sonic "salami".
