Description:
Abstract:
The chapter reviews the CDWA (Categories for the Description of Works of Art), a set of guidelines and cataloguing rules for the description of art, architecture and other cultural works, and its core elements. CDWA is a product of the Art Information Task Force (AITF), which aims to foster dialogue between art historians, art repositories and information providers to jointly develop guidelines for the description of works of art and their virtual representations. The aim is to provide a set of guidelines for the implementation of best practices for the documentation of works of art and other cultural works. Within this framework CDWA Lite was developed which is an XML schema for creating records based on CDWA and CCO, and more recently LIDO.
