Description:
Abstract:
Every athlete very often talks to himself, either out loud or silently. Self-talk refers to the internal control of people's thoughts, which in sports helps focus attention, reduces negative and other unwanted thoughts, stimulates, motivates and helps increase effort. The technique of self-talk concerns the conscious conversation of athletes with themselves, expresses feelings and perceptions, judges situations, gives instructions, and reinforces individuals in their efforts. In this chapter the directions are developed and examples are given for the appropriate use of the technique, either in sports, or in school physical education and health exercise programs.
