Abstract: |
In the last decade, the international efforts to reduce out of hospital cardiac arrest deaths contain actions that promote the integration of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training in education. This book entitled " The teaching of CRP in educational settings " combines information related to CPR training, according to current guidelines, with the pedagogical background that supports effective teaching at all levels of education. Recent innovative interdisciplinary collaborative CPR research and training actions targeting pupils and students, led by academics of the Department of Physical Education and Sports Science (DPESS) of the University of Thessaly (UTh), in collaboration with the Directorate of Education of Thessaly and members / CPR instructors from the Hellenic Association of Emergency Prehospital Care (E.E.E.P.F.), have contributed to the creation of new knowledge & appropriate material to support the teaching of CPR to teachers, students and pupils.
Especially P.E. teachers, but also other pedagogy graduates who work in the school setting have now the support that will allow them to integrate CPR teaching into an active learning model. By doing so they can reap multiple benefits for developing a positive school culture and they can also contribute to benefiting the society at large, in the context of the educational reform of the Greek School curriculum.
Therefore, this book provides the appropriate pedagogical and practical information for the organization of class of teaching CPR, whether with or without the use of an automatic external defibrillator (AED), It also contains advice to the educator for class implementation, with actionable steps to provide an escalating degree of difficulty (depending on educational level). This book offers the teacher or lecturer easy-to-use visual aids, practical tips and sample lessons. In addition, it provides key information and recommendations for the necessary actions that an educational unit needs to take in order to apply risk/hazard reduction and formulate actionable emergency/crisis response action plans. Also, this book can serve in the training of students and the preparation of DPESS future graduates, as well as graduates of pedagogical departments or other scientists acquiring pedagogical competence, who will serve in the three levels of education.
