Description:
Abstract:
The present work is a Greek-English terminological dictionary of Information Science, including Library Science, Archival Science as well as Terminology Science, Informatics, Museology and Publishing. The dictionary is divided into 10 thematic chapters and aims to provide professionals, researchers and students in the field, with a handy and reliable reference tool. The compilation of this dictionary involved the collection, recording and development of fundamental concepts found in these areas. The primary source for the content of this dictionary were mainly the concepts defined in Greek (ELOT) and international (ISO) documentation standards, in standards of Terminology and Information Technology as well as in standards, specifications, dictionaries and other important sources in the field of Information Science. For each concept one or more designations are provided (preferred terms, non-preferred terms, admitted synonyms) in both Greek and English. Each concept is distinctly described in a separate entry. Each entry contains short, self-contained texts with basic information (linguistic, encyclopedic, historical or explanatory notes etc.) about the concept, as well as a description of its relationship(s) with other concepts. When the same term designates different concepts when used in different contexts, it is followed by an explanation in angle brackets (< >) clarifying its use (e.g., record and record ). The relevant terminology and terminography standards and practices on the organization and presentation of the entries were followed.
