Abstract: |
Electronic Government is a recent interdisciplinary scientific field. Therefore, a holistic treatment of Electronic Government should include constitutional, legal, organizational, and technological aspects to name only a few. In addition, Electronic Government is important to academicians and researchers, however, it mainly has a practical orientation. It is thus important that research results are used in the field from pertinent authorities to improve public services and governance as a whole. This book focuses mainly on conceptual and technological aspects and less on other dimensions of Electronic Government, as these evolve in the member states of the European Union, having an emphasis on Greece. It covers a wide range of issues including the Electronic Government institutional framework, the concept of public service, public service provision, open government data, electronic participation, one-stop government and interoperability. In addition, several relevant technologies are presented, e.g. BPMN, APIs, Linked Open Data and Artificial Intelligence, with an emphasis on their exploitation in the public sector. This book is mainly addressed to undergraduate and graduate students of programs that are related to information and computer science. However, the largest part of the book does not require a technical background, hence it can be read by anyone interested in the field of Electronic Government.
