| Abstract: |
Rangeland dynamics and ecological efficiency and therefore their economic performance are significantly influenced by ecological disturbances (connection to the previous Unit). Thus, it is necessary to study the status of functioning of rangelands by using qualitative criteria and indicators adapted to Mediterranean conditions. The qualitative assessment of functioning of rangelands provides the framework and complements and acts decisively to quantitative assessment (connection to the next Unit); it specifies the directions for improvement that has to be taken into account in the management of rangelands.
