Description:
Abstract:
This textbook presents contemporary theoretical and methodological approaches to the teaching of art, drawing on material from the research of the author, that is based on arts-based educational research. Issues of identity of visual teachers are presented, and the phenomenon of convergence of Visual Arts and education is analyzed. Furthermore, the issue of teaching contemporary artistic practices is approached, and likewise, related, modern approaches to theory and practical teaching. Moreover, Ways of organizing didactic scenarios as well as the impact of new technologies on educational methodology are presented. Emphasis is given to the tool of visual notebooks, which offers reflection through the connection of speech and visual representation of meanings. Issues concerning the broader teaching of visual culture, as well as multimodality are analyzed. On the basis of the above, the question of visual literacy is approached. Furthermore, the teaching of art and visual culture is connected with critical pedagogy by examining and analyzing their inextricable connection. Finally, issues related to research methodology in art didactics are described, examining qualitative, mixed and arts-based methods, while the book concludes with a case study concerning my doctoral thesis that applied such an approach. The overall aim of this textbook is to make it clear to the students of the School of Fine Arts who are oriented to art education, that the identity of the visual artist and the teacher should be linked in a functional unity of hybrid character, which is also reflected in the proposed methodological approaches. Similarly, emphasis is placed on the inextricable relationship between language and image that are artificially separated in academic and especially in educational research. The final aim is to make it clear that the teaching of the image is also the teaching of thought, as Visual Education offers opportunities for sharpening perceptiveness, critical and reflective thinking, learning through personal exploration and discovery.
