Description:
Abstract:
Complex numbers are an algebraic expansion of the set of real numbers into a new set in which as many properties of the real numbers are preserved as possible and at the same time every quadratic equation has a solution. Complex numbers are used a lot in the solution of applied science problems. In this chapter the concept of complex number is defined, its geometric representation is described and the algebraic and geometric properties of complex numbers are examined. Particular emphasis is placed on the trigonometric form of complex numbers which is used in this chapter mainly to find the n-th roots of a complex number z.
