Gender Narratives (Re)Constructed in Literature
Authors: Kitsi-Mitakou, Katerina
Description:
Abstract:
This chapter studies gender, sex, and sexuality as fluid categories, focusing particularly on literary and cultural texts from the Renaissance to the postmodernist era. By providing an overview of key theoretical discourses on gender and sexuality and drawing links between past and present debates, the chapter points to the plurality of interdisciplinary connections. It, also, invites students to explore and/or challenge traditional gender roles and dominant notions while encouraging them to (re)consider and (re)evaluate their inscriptions of gender and sexuality.
