Description:
Abstract:
This book deals with the area of pedagogy, that aims to help address the issues arising from social differentiation. The area of pedagogy that attempts to provide a timely and systematically elaborated response to contemporary social problems, is known as multicultural, anti-racist and intercultural education. These three scientific traditions mean and signify different things to different people. But in general (and abstractly), they focus on social differentiation and want to help to address economic and social inequalities, to apply human and individual rights everywhere, and to recognise cultural and identity differences. The objective of this book is intercultural education for social justice. More specifically, after presenting and critically analyzing the problematic around the different approaches and views related to multicultural/anti-racist and intercultural education and the problems they are associated with, the focus is then on the distinctive elements of this direction. Emphasis is placed on making it clear that intercultural education for social justice does not only concern schools attended by pupils with different national, ethnic, cultural, linguistic and religious characteristics, but also all pupils in a society. As a comprehensive proposal that stands against discrimination, racism, sexism, classism and economic inequalities, oppression, unequal power relations and all kinds of authoritarianism, intercultural education for social justice concerns all pupils, as well as all people.
