Description:
Abstract:
"Modern philosophy" refers to the philosophical period spanning from the 17th to the 19th century. Its emblematic beginning is attributed to Descartes' publication of the Discourse on Method in 1637, and it is considered to have ended in 1900 with Nietzsche's death. This comprehensive Guide aims to provide an extensive bibliography covering the entire field of modern philosophy, encompassing the works of philosophers from Descartes to Nietzsche. The Guide is organized into seventeen chapters, following an introductory chapter titled "On Modern Philosophy in General". Each subsequent chapter focuses on one of the seventeen philosophers recognized in the established "canon": Descartes, Hobbes, Spinoza, Leibniz, Locke, Berkeley, Hume, Rousseau, Kant, Fichte, Schelling, Hegel, Schopenhauer, Mill, Kierkegaard, Marx, and Nietzsche. Each of these seventeen chapters comprises the following sections: A. Introduction: A concise general introduction to the philosopher's work. B. Most important works: A chronological list of the philosopher's most significant works, including the original titles and their translation in Greek. C. Translations: A compilation of translations of the philosopher's works into modern Greek, accompanied by a brief comparative evaluation of their quality. D. International literature: A critical review of the major contributions in the international bibliography, including monographs and collective volumes. E. Greek bibliography: An analytical overview of the notable contributions in Greek bibliography, offering a critical assessment of their significance.
