Abstract:
In this chapter, the structure and evolution of the atmospheric motions on a large and synoptic scales are presented. The chapter also includes the apparent and real forces affecting the circulation of air masses, as well as the characteristics of the geostrophic wind, the surface wind and the gradient wind. The application at the end of the chapter includes meteorological maps and diagrams to understand the balance of forces and the formation of the surface wind.
