Abstract: |
Health and welfare professionals encounter individuals and families with substance use or abuse problems very often in their clinical practice. The serious dimensions that the phenomenon of addiction has taken worldwide and also in our country, require from health and welfare professionals to set up an effective management strategy for the problems of substance use and abuse they face every day. The academic textbook "Caring for the family with addiction problems" is an evidence-based academic textbook that aims to inform and raise awareness among health and welfare students/professionals on issues of family outreach and interventions. It, also, aims at the continuing education of health and welfare professionals on issues related to addiction and family burden including family violence as well as the training and professional self-development of professionals who work or wish to work in the field of addictions. The ultimate goal of this effort is to create a comprehensive handbook on issues related to clinical work, education and research in the family approach. The present textbook consists of a total of eleven chapters. These chapters attempt to help readers understand the framework of approaching affected family members and clarify key concepts and terms used in the field of empirically based family interventions. In addition, they aim to contribute to the sense of competence of undergraduate and postgraduate students regarding their knowledge of evidence-based family interventions, as well as their application in the context of addiction treatment, prevention centers, and primary and secondary health care.
