In this chapter, T1DM is extensively reported as an inherited, multifactorial and multigenic disease, with the final result being the destruction of pancreatic β-cells and life-long insulin therapy. Therapeutic developments with artificial pancreas systems are already in use. Later in this chapter, Acute complications of diabetes such as Diabetic ketoacidosis, Hyperosmotic syndrome and Hypoglycemia are also described.
