The provenance of linked data

Description:
Abstract:
Open-linked data "opens up" library data models for use by third parties and, in exchange, promises simpler possibilities for enriching our data with other data. There is therefore a desire to record the provenance of all data and to be able to provide information about what data has now been entered into our database and who, if necessary, is responsible for it. Unfortunately, the issue of presenting provenance information for linked data has so far been resolved in an unsatisfactory manner. In this chapter, we present the fundamental problem and possible solution approaches and highlight current developments of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) working groups and the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative (DCMI) that give hope for a uniform solution shortly.
