Description:
Abstract:
This book addresses issues related to learning disabilities (LD), starting from the premise that students with LD can achieve both academically and socially, provided they receive appropriate, timely, and effective instructional interventions. It is divided into seven chapters. The first two chapters focus on the fundamental concepts, definitions, and theoretical approaches found in international literature, which represent significant topics of discussion and scientific debate in the field of LD. The third chapter discusses multi-tiered teaching, while the following, fourth chapter, explores methods for supporting students with LD in general education classrooms, emphasizing differentiated instructional modifications and adaptations to make the curriculum more accessible to all students. The next two chapters emphasize teaching and learning strategies for core academic subjects—reading, writing, and mathematics—to enhance learning effectiveness and school success. The final, seventh chapter provides practical material for both special educators working in inclusion units, KEDDY (now KEDASY) (Centers for Differential Diagnosis, Diagnosis, and Support of Special Educational Needs), and EDEAY (now EDY) (Interdisciplinary Support Committees for Schools), as well as for mainstream classroom teachers. This chapter includes diagnostic tools, instructional plans, and intervention strategies while recommending best practices and supporting the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Each chapter is grounded in both international and Greek literature, adhering to scientific and ethical standards, making the book suitable as supporting material for undergraduate and postgraduate courses. At the end of each chapter, comprehension questions are provided, along with relevant answers, to facilitate learning and self-assessment.
