Description:
Abstract:
The science of Pharmacy is recognized through its history, unfolding the main achievements in the time and place they occurred, as well as the creators. In a didactic and not an encyclopedic book, such as the present one, it is not appropriate to record all names and facts, but only the main ones. The goal is to know the evolution of our science from the first medicines instinctively discovered by the man in his natural environment up to modern biotechnological drugs. In the present e-book the achievements of great researchers, who lived in earlier periods and had a deep knowledge of the healing means of their time are described. History, as knowledge, has the advantage of broadening the image of the world and society beyond our immediate surroundings. Also, many elements of Ethnopharmacology have been included, concerning the use of natural drugs in antiquity and today. As there is a sequence of events, studies and discoveries, which contribute to the development of the Pharmacy, it is not easy to divide periods, but for purely didactic reasons without really being any dividing lines from one period to the next, the history of Pharmacy is presented in 4 large sections, each one referring to specific centuries, peoples and people with great achievements.
