Description:
Abstract:
This chapter presents the main points from the guidelines for describing cultural objects contained in Part Three of the CCO, which deals with authorities. The standard terms of (1) names of persons and institutions, (2) geographic locations, (3) concepts, and (4) subjects, are described. It examines their structure, how they are used, and what elements of the record should refer to them. It also discusses cases where a term fits into more than one record of established terms, how terms are separated in the records, etc. Then briefly it describes the Getty Institute's vocabularies: the Art & Architecture Thesaurus (AAT), the Artists' Collective Names List (ULAN), the Thesaurus of Geographical Names (TGN), the Standard Names of Cultural Objects (CONA), and the Standard Iconography Terms (IA). To facilitate the retrieval of additional information, the numbering of the sections follows the numbering of the corresponding chapters in the official CCO guide.
