Description:
Abstract:
This chapter describes how to determine minute ventilation (MV) and respiratory rate during mechanical ventilation with the aim of avoiding lung overdistension, de-recruitment and atelectasis. It analyzes how flow can affect peak inspiratory pressure and inspiratory-expiratory time in various pathological conditions. It, also, describes the use of airflow pause to calculate the average pressure in the alveoli (Plateau Pressure) and the static compliance of the pulmonary parenchyma (Static Compliance). Settings both in controlled and in assisted models are discussed. Finally, the basic settings of hybrid ventilation models are presented.
