Description:
Abstract:
This chapter presents nineteen (19) thinking routines, which are the core strategies of the "Artful Thinking" approach. Furthermore, ways of their systematic use and utilization, during the pedagogical process, are described. Thinking Routines are short and easy-to-learn strategies that can expand and deepen students' thinking, if they become part of everyday classroom life. They are flexibly and frequently used for the thoughtful approach to works of art, but also in a wide variety of subjects across the curriculum. For each one of the six (6) thinking dispositions of “Artful Thinking”, we present associated thinking routines, combined with basic questions that facilitate their use in the classroom, also relevant learning objectives, instructions on how, when and where the teacher will use them, as well as practical examples with selected works of art. Finally, ways to evaluate the use of thinking routines as cognitive tools for cultivating thinking dispositions and competencies, are suggested.
