Description:
Abstract:
This chapter focuses in the process of observing works of art as part of the educational process. It begins with the presentation of theories that explain the aesthetic development of the individual, and they consist the basis for the effective planning of teaching ta is related, directly or indirectly, to aesthetic education. Through the aesthetic experience, students cultivate a range of competencies, which are usually included in the broader concepts of aesthetic, visual and/or cultural literacy. In addition, the chapter briefly presents some of the basic frameworks of understanding art, such as those of visual perception, and visual literacy, while highlighting the pedagogical value of "reading" works of art in the context of school classroom. Since almost the middle of the 20th century, several models of observation of works of art have been proposed, which aim to develop critical reflection around the mental content of Art. A selection of such approaches is briefly presented in the final part of this chapter. These approaches, as well as others presented in subsequent chapters, can be used in the teaching of all subjects, as we will see later in this book.
