Description:
Abstract:
This chapter points out the pedagogical importance of the Visual Arts and Arts in general by exploring the references of the international literature. It also highlights, the difficulties of the assessment of the Visual Arts Course by the educational stakeholders, as it is expressed in the official curricula. The absence of educational research on this specific topic, in the 20th century Greek bibliographic review is significant. This testifies to the different perception that prevailed until recently in the Greek educational system about the role and function of Art. This perception is also reflected in the way Art lessons are included and taught in the school curriculum. In the reformed Greek Curricula, the educational importance of Art and Visual Arts as subjects is recognized, not only in curricula’s universal design but also with their horizontal diffusion in them. Learning "with" the Arts and "through" the Arts is a teaching strategy for cultivating 21st century skills.
