Description:
Abstract:
Communities are complex entities containing individuals differentiated by status, political and economic power, religion and social prestige, and intentions. To manage marine resources, local institutions usually depend on traditional knowledge, shared and accumulated through the generations. Support for existing local institutions, the possibility of creating or recreating others and the devolution towards local control of resources managed constitute especially interesting areas of research.
