Gender and/in Translation
Authors: Misiou, Vasiliki
Description:
Abstract:
Delving into the intricacies of the convergence between gender and translation studies, this chapter discusses the intersection among gender, language, and translation, reflecting upon the various crossroads where these concepts meet each other. Engaging with critical debates and drawing on examples from literary and non-fiction texts, the chapter highlights the key role of translation in making gender (in)visible acting both as a vehicle for perpetuating power structures and as a site for challenging and contesting gendered norms, practices, and processes. Translation, being always contingent upon the agenda it pursues, is seen as a (trans)formative factor of representation and as an instrumental tool for social change.
