Regional inequalities and spatial autocorrelation
Authors: Artelaris, Panagiotis
Description:
Abstract:
The chapter aims to highlight the issue of spatial autocorrelation when measuring regional inequalities and re-examine the regional convergence or divergence trends in Greece. Traditional (a-spatial) methods, usually used in relative studies, may mask geographical spaces that are heterogeneous in nature limiting the understanding of spatial inequality. Recent advances in spatial data analysis facilitate the consideration of spatial inequalities and enhance the reliability of the empirical work.
